Transport in Mysore
Bus
State owned bus services are frequently scheduled, traveling to all major tourist, residential and hotel areas of Mysore. If you are looking for a more comfortable ride, air-conditioned Volvo buses are also available for touring around the city or even to the outside attractions in surrounding towns.
Auto rickshaw
Mysore’s auto rickshaws are the primary mode of transportation in the city. Prepaid booths are located at the railway station or local city bus stand, which allows you to be assigned to an auto with the amount you’ve paid printed on a piece of paper. The process is easy and the trip is comfortable.
If you are going by meter (the drivers preferred method), the rate is Rs 9 per km, with a minimum fare being Rs 18.
Taxi and Car
Tourist cabs can be hired to tour the city for an entire day, visiting both local and nearby attractions such as the popular Srirangapatna. There are flat rates available for daily hires, or you can pay for a short distance at a rate of Rs 9-10 per km.
There are many rental companies available to provide private vehicles for a day or weeks visit, leaving you with the option of hiring a driver as well.
