One of the best kept zoos in India and is a real treat for the entire family, this 250 acre zoo was founded in 1892 and is home to Royal Bengal tigers, Himalayan black bears, white tigers, lions, gorillas, elephants, giraffes, kangaroos, rhinos and many other animals from over 40 countries around the world. The Mysore Zoo has a section devoted to reptiles & snakes and within its grounds there is also a museum that has models of rare birds and animals. When exploring what the Mysore Zoo has to offer, you will also find the Karanji Lake, which attracts several species of migratory birds during the breeding season including pelicans, darters, painted storks and the purple & grey heron. All of this makes the Mysore Zoo one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions.
