The palace also boasted sophisticated underground piping systems, showcasing the advanced engineering of the time. According to historical accounts, Tipu Sultan had chained four tigers near its entrance, adding to the palace's mystique and grandeur.

⚔️ Destruction and Decline

The Lal Mahal Palace met its demise following the death of Tipu Sultan in 1799.

After the British forces defeated Tipu Sultan during the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War, they systematically dismantled his palaces and residences to erase his legacy.

The Lal Mahal Palace was not spared; its golden arches and doors were dismantled, and its treasures plundered. The British authorities, fearing potential uprisings and the resurgence of Tipu's heirs, decided to demolish the palace entirely. By the early 19th century, the once-magnificent structure had been reduced to rubble.

The body of Tippu Sultan was found here Historical Context: The Fall of Srirangapatna, 1799 By the late 18th century, Tippu Sultan (often called the “Tiger of Mysore”) was one of the major resistors to British expansion in southern India.
