The Delhi Gate or the Gate to Delhi Bridge

The Delhi Gate is a surviving remnant of what was once a grand fortified structure. One historical account suggests that Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar (1673–1704) named this place Delhi Gate after a significant event—he defeated the Marathas, who were rivals of Emperor Aurangzeb, in a battle.

The victory strengthened the alliance between Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar and Aurangzeb, and the naming of this gate was said to commemorate their friendship.

While the original fort was dismantled by the British, with many of its stones reused for other structures, the Delhi Gate still stands today, silent yet powerful. The fort itself witnessed major battles, including fierce confrontations between Tipu Sultan and the British East India Company, making it a deeply significant historical site.
