Mysore Lakshman Mess

When you travel to Mysuru, exploring its popular food spots is just as essential as visiting its palaces, monuments and heritage attractions. If you are specifically on the lookout for authentic local-style non-vegetarian dishes, Lakshman Mess is a place you should keep on your list. Lakshman Mess has been winning hearts for years and is now attracting tourists too — thanks to word of mouth and social media shoutouts.

Why is Lakshman Mess Popular?

Lakshman Mess is one of those restaurants that Mysoreans swear by. Known for its simple and flavour-packed non-vegetarian dishes, this mess draws regular crowds every day. Whether it is a weekday or weekend, you will generally find customers lining up for their favourite meals.

We visited the restaurant in November 2025, on a Saturday around 3:00 PM, and it was still bustling with people. Most tables were occupied, the kitchen was active, and the staff were rushing around attending to customers. This itself reflects how popular this mess is among locals and travellers alike.

Tip Before You Visit

If you are planning to go at weekends, try to visit early. The crowds tend to peak around lunch hours, and waiting times can stretch a bit.

What We Tried at Lakshman Mess...

🍽️Chicken Pulav

The most recommended dish here is the Mutton Pulav. We didn’t know that and ordered for the Chicken Pulav. Trust me, Chicken Pulav was no less, made with short-grain rice — perfect for those who prefer Pulav/Biryani made from smaller rice grains instead of the longer basmati.
  • Mildly flavoured
  • Comforting and easy on the stomach
  • Well-cooked, tender chicken pieces
  • Not oily or heavy
We even noticed customers ordering a second plate, which speaks volumes about its taste!

🍗 Chicken Kabab

The Chicken Kabab here complements the pulav well. Simple, flavourful and served hot, it’s a great add-on if you enjoy fried starters.

Important Note: Lakshman Mess does not serve vegetarian dishes. This place is strictly for non-veg diners.

Ambience & Dining Experience

Lakshman Mess is not a fine dining restaurant. It is a modest, clean, family-friendly mess with a straightforward setup.
  • The ground floor has two rows of four-seater tables.
  • It can get a little congested during peak hours, especially when customers wait near the entrance.
  • Service is decent — not exceptional, but attentive. The waiters are always busy, and sometimes you may have to wait a few minutes before your order arrives. They do get to you.
The upper floors were not explored during our visit, but they are expected to be similar in setup.

Parking, Accessibility & How to Reach

Lakshman Mess has no dedicated parking area, and the locality can get busy.

Parking Tips:
  • Two-wheelers shouldn’t face much trouble.
  • Four-wheelers may need to be parked a little further away on a side road.
  • Easiest option: Arrive by autorickshaw or Ola/Uber cabs to avoid parking stress.
