New Mysore Refreshments – A Must-Try Vegetarian Restaurant

Mysore Refreshments
New Mysore Refreshments Restaurant near Mysore Zoo

When you are exploring Mysuru, you will never run out of amazing places to eat — but if you are near the Mysore Zoo and craving authentic South Indian flavours, New Mysore Refreshments is one restaurant you absolutely should not miss.

This popular vegetarian restaurant near the Zoo Garden has become a local favourite (even for tourists) for its freshly made dosas, steaming idlis, crispy Mangalore bajjis, and flavourful kara baths.

As you scroll through this post, you will also get to see mouth-watering photographs of their signature dishes — all captured right at the restaurant.

A Vegetarian Haven for South Indian Food Lovers

The New Mysore Refreshments is a pure vegetarian restaurant. They do not serve any non-vegetarian food, but you will find plenty to love here — whether you are a dosa devotee or a coffee connoisseur.

I am personally not a fan of the Masala Dosa here — but everything else is spot on, especially for a casual, homely South Indian meal at the right price.

Location – Just a Stone’s Throw from Mysore Zoo

The restaurant is located right next to the Mysore Zoo, making it a perfect stop after your visit. You can either walk down from the zoo or drive — and here’s something convenient: they also serve food to your car!

If you are visiting by car, the staff will help you find a parking spot and even bring your order right to your window. It’s a simple, efficient system that regular visitors really appreciate.

Ambience and Dining Experience

The dining area inside is small but clean and functional. The restaurant is almost always busy — especially during weekends and holidays — so you might need to wait for a table.

Despite the crowd, the staff are polite and hardworking, ensuring quick service whether you are dining in or eating in your car. The ambience isn’t fancy, but it’s the kind of lively, bustling atmosphere that’s typical of popular South Indian eateries.

Parking and Accessibility

Parking is available, and if the lot is full, the waiters or security staff will guide you to nearby spots. They are always around to help, so do not hesitate to ask if you are unsure where to park.

When to Visit New Mysore Refreshments?

The best time to visit New Mysore Refreshments is for breakfast or dinner. I haven’t tried lunch here, but early mornings are ideal if you want to skip the rush and enjoy your meal peacefully.

Nearby Attractions

Since the restaurant is right near Mysore Zoo, it’s an easy stop before or after your visit. Other nearby attractions include:
  • Chamundi Hills
  • Mylari Restaurant (famous for Mylari Dosa)
  • Guru Restaurant (another good vegetarian option in Nazarbad)
If you are shortlisting places to eat in Mysuru, this area around the zoo is packed with some of the city’s best local restaurants.

My Thoughts

I have been visiting New Mysore Refreshments for several years now — about once every month — and I can confidently say it’s one of the best places in Mysuru for authentic South Indian food. It’s simple, affordable, and consistently good.

So next time you’re exploring Mysore Zoo or the nearby attractions, make sure to stop here for a hot dosa and a cup of coffee.
